K-State Esports wins NECC National Championship

Kansas State University’s League of Legends junior varsity esports team faced the Northern Illinois University Crimson on Wednesday, May 1 at the National Championship NECC Navigators tournament. The tournament started with more than 70 teams in contention for the title. K-State defeated the Crimson 3-0 in the best of five competition.

K-State’s JV team won the fall 2023 region to secure a spot in the national tournament as the fourteenth seed. At the regional event, the team had an impressive 4-0 match score and 9-0 game score. 

The League of Legends JV players are Jarod Frederick, Glen Reardon, Jack Zhou, Warren Ley, Patrick Ahearn and Jarah Alkandari.

Other notable finishes from the esports season include a runner-up finish for the Rainbow Six Siege team in the Champions National Tournament.

The League of Legends and Valorant varsity teams both finished tied for third and fourth in the Challengers National Tournament after winning their respective spring 2024 West B regions.
